ENG 1P1 Personal Essay: Young Adult Reading

This is the final writing assignment of the course. I’m looking for an introduction and two body paragraphs that all prove this thesis: Students can learn a great deal about life and the world around them by reading young adult books. Choose two of the Y/A items we read this quadmester to help you prove the thesis. Each Y/A item gets its own paragraph. Here is the structure to follow:

Introduction:
Use the thesis I provided above, followed by a sentence that begins in this way: “Two young adult books that meant the most to me this quadmester were:  Real Justice: Convicted for Being Mi’kmaq: The Story of Donald Marshall Jr. by  Bill Swan and Rubin Hurricane Carter by Bill Swan.”

Body Paragraph #1
Start with a topic sentence that uses a transition, like “First.” (i.e. The first book read this quadmester that meant something to me is _________ by ________.)
State what type of young adult book this is: short fiction, long fiction, nonfiction, or graphic fiction.
Write about the book and why it is one of the young adult books read this quadmester that meant the most to you.
Conclude the paragraph with a sentence that summarizes your thoughts about this book.

Body Paragraph #2
Start with a topic sentence that uses a transition, like “Next.” (i.e. The next book…)
State what type of young adult book this is: short fiction, long fiction, nonfiction, or graphic fiction.
Write about the book and why it is one of the young adult books read this quadmester that meant the most to you.
Conclude the paragraph with a sentence that summarizes your thoughts about this book.

Review your work before turning it in on the Dropbox. Check your spelling, sentence structure, punctuation, and use of capitals. You should have three separate paragraphs. You will see on the marking scheme that most of your marks are in Communication. Please use the box below to type your essay:
