Journal #1: Text Connections
The purpose of writing journals in this class is to look at a variety of different topics through different forms of media (news articles, videos, podcasts) and practice making connections with the text. Through this process, you will be able to develop your critical thinking skills and learn to communicate your thoughts through writing by using the general connectors of text to text, text to self, and text to world.
Your Task
You will read one article and write a response to it using the Writing Process and Text Connections.
Step 1
Please read over the following two documents.
The Writing Process
Text Connections
Ensure that you look over the 5 paragraph example.
Step 2
Please read the following source(s) three times. The point of this is to ensure that you understand it and that you don’t miss important/key points. You will be making three different types of connections in your assignment: text to text, text to self and text to world.

Question to Consider:
Are there any connections that you can make between this article to anything else that you’ve read/seen in the news?
What is your opinion of the article?
What other things are going on in the world that are connected to the matters presented in this article?
Step 3
Using the information in the Text Connections document, write 5 well developed paragraphs about your reaction to what is said in the article using the Writing Process.
You must follow the Writing Process Steps
Step 1: Brainstorm your ideas
Step 2: Create an outline of the points you will cover in order
